High schools often have a freshman camp for rising 9th graders. Parents, please make sure your student registers for and attends that camp. Students will receive their schedules and learn how to get around the school before those first busy days of school. Please make time for that and plan ahead to attend. Check the assigned high school websites for more information on how to register.
On Thursday, June 28 at 9:30 am we will recognize 8th grade accomplishments during our annual Awards Ceremony.
Parents of 8th graders are invited to come . More information will be posted on our website in June. On Thursday, May 3, representatives from Knightdale High School will come to speak with rising 9th graders who are assigned to their school. Students will receive a pass that morning in homeroom to attend the session during their 2nd elective.
Students who will turn 14 1/2 years old by this summer are eligible to take Drivers Education.
Details and information on how to register and pay for Drivers' Education are on the Jordan Driving School website. Students can also pick up a paper form in the Student Services Area or from Mrs. Lawson. Ready or not, fourth quarter - our students' last 9 weeks in middle school started today. Everyone registered for high school before we left for trackout. All students received a copy of their schedule for 4th quarter today in homeroom. Some students have new 4th quarter electives. A strong finish is important. Encourage students to ask questions and get the help they need so that they can successfully meet promotion requirements for 8th grade.
Any students who do not register for their high school courses will not have a high school schedule in August!
Students do not need long to register. They must log in to the PowerSchool account and there will be a link on the left "Class Registration" Once they have clicked on that link, they read and follow directions. If they do not hit submit at the end, their selections will not be saved or entered into PowerSchool. The deadline for students to turn in their high school registration forms signed by a parent is Thursday, March 15. If students do not select electives, the counselor will choose for them and they may not be able to change if they do not like the selections. Make sure to register for HS! All 8th grade students received high school registration information in their Language Arts classes this week (2/26 to 3/1)
Students must complete a worksheet for their assigned high school and get that signed by a parent. After completing the worksheet - each student must enter their HS registration selections in PowerSchool using the student's PowerSchool account by Tuesday, March 13. Students turn in two papers to their Language Arts Teachers by Thursday, March 15: 1. HS registration sheet signed by both student and a parent 2. Printed PowerSchool confirmation page Any students who need assistance can meet with Mrs. Lawson before school or during lunch or come to the Media Computer Lab with a teachers pass anytime from 7:25 am till 2:15 pm on Tuesday, March 13 to get help with Power School or print their course selections. Students who applied by the December deadline for the early colleges will find out on Monday, February 19.
Application Results will be emailed and posted to Parent Dashboards on February 19, 2018 Please check the parent dashboard for results. Two of the early colleges are opening up the application process for any 8th graders who missed the original deadline.
The Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy, North Wake College and Career Academy and Crossroads FLEX high school will accept 2nd chance applications February 19- March 2. Students who are interested may apply at earlycolleges.wcpss.net. Students who applied to the early college programs will find out if they have been assigned to an early college after those decisions are posted on the parent accounts by February 19. Please plan to attend the session with your rising 9th grader.
